Experience Lincolns Attractions: FREE

There’s always plenty to do in Lincoln whatever the weather or time of year you visit us, but next month there’s a special event on which the city’s most famous attractions are taking part in. The Discover Lincolnshire weekend takes place on Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd of March and features special events and free admission to attractions all over the county, as well as here in Lincoln.

On Saturday, admission to the Cathedral is free all day, and they’re also running some special tours giving visitors a peek into other areas of the building.  You can go up one of the towers (all 338 spiral stairs!) and see the bell chamber and the fantastic 360 degree view across the city, or take a look up in the roof, where you can see the amazing stained glass windows close to. Take a look at the Lincoln Cathedral website for more info.

On the other side of Cathedral Square, Lincoln Castle is undergoing a load of renovation work ready for the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta next year, but this hasn’t stopped them getting into the spirit of things!  The castle is offering free entry all weekend and has lots going on inside the grounds, with craft demonstrations, birds of prey, historical re-enactors and medieval music.

Meanwhile, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life if having a weekend of traditional games, both indoors and outdoors, which should be fun for kids and adults alike.

Lincoln’s open topped double decker sightseeing bus is also getting involved and will be offering free tours on both days, though it’s best to book up in advance. This is the weekend when the tour launches for the season!

If you fancy going further afield in the county, Gainsborough Old Hall is open free, with craft activities to try, and Cogglesford Watermill at Sleaford is milling – and even giving away free bags of flour! See the full list of events on around the county here.

It is definitely a good time to visit Lincoln!
